Hi M. Abid! Me and my friend saw your movie tonight at the first north-american broadcast in Montreal. I just wanted to tell you it is an amazing look at Irak, our vision of Bagdad and its inhabitants precised itself. We determined that only an Iraki could have shooted something that real about the life in this country. Even if it was a little bit long, the vision was revealing and we got interested in the destiny of your brothers and nieces.  Congratulations! Another question: which kind of camera did you use for the shooting? We are interested in shooting documentaries and are curious about the material you used. Thanks in advance for your time and good luck to your family with everything! What a great movie you made smile

Mabrouk for your film Life After the Fall. I just had a chance to see it
last night. It is very powerful and moving. I was touched by your personal portrayal of life from inside Iraq as seen through the eyes of your family. It is sad because it is so real but yet so full of dignity and humanity. It is a film you had to make. I am glad you did.

I only watched your film two days ago as I did not have the chance to do it before then. I was moved and saddened by it a great deal. Sometimes it is difficult to digest just how badly things have turned out for our region. I have been thinking about it a lot ever since. I hope that it will get a wide audience. It deserves it. Your family is so sweet and your brother’s story was really heart breaking. Him playing the piano in such a nice and special way at the end was very moving. It is great that you have managed to make this film.

...sorry for taking such a long time to send you a message. I saw Life After the Fall last Saturday and since then I reviewed it three times. I still can’t find the right words to describe how it made such a deep and profound impact on me. Every time I see it is a different movie because everytime I see it I feel like being born again. I know this explanation may sound not naive. But that´s exactly how I feel. My coprehension is widening and this “reality” has reached me in a way it never did before.Thank you for introducing me to your family, to your country, to your journey, to your palm tree, to your conflicts. Throughout your images I was introduced to this “world” which I feel I belong to: a world of conflicts, but, still, a world of hope. That’s also my inner coprehension of what resistance should be.

Thank you for the good quality. I loved every minute of this film. I saw it in the festival of Cartage in Tunis. Not everyone loved the film. I noticed that many left the cinema when they saw that the family was happy that Saddam was captured. And they were disappointed. But for me I enjoyed it. It showed me the life of Iraqis seen by Iraqis! And that’s something we don’t have the opportunity to see everyday!
Thank you again !!!

I loved your film! Although it made me cry and sad. But it also made me smile. It’s an amazing film. And your nieces are just incredible! Your sister and brother as well, but I was particularly struck by your nieces. You really tell the story of the occupation, the initial hope, the joy, and then the disillusionment, the tragedies…through your family. And what an amazing loveable family you have! I am so sorry about your brother. I hope many many people around the world will watch this film.

“… we both think it is a very moving and powerful documentation of the family. The camera shots were great and the account of the different family member is so touching....Please let us know when it will be on TV.

I just wanted to write and say how very moved I was by Kasim’s film last night.  It was a real privilege to spend time with his family. Their collective strength and individual humour was remarkable to see and really brought home to me in a way nothing I have seen or read before, just how ghastly life is for the people of Baghdad. It was strange seeing people I had been aware of remotely, through my time working with Kasim’s wife. I knew the headlines of their story but the practical realities and tensions had to be seen to be fully appreciated. I am really grateful he captured this pivotal time and I hope many more people get to see it via Channel 4.

I saw your wonderful film at the Frontline Club on Monday.  Congratulations.  It is an unforgettable story, and perfectly told.  To my surprise, I did not think it should be even one minute shorter!
